Did you know what is the story of Irisan and the stories of the first families in this place? If no, let's know it together.

Today, Irisan has the biggest population in Baguio City with 33 puroks all in all, many houses were built far away from its old look which is a thickly forested place with lots of pine trees. Before, Irisan is connected to tuba, Benguet having Joaquin Smith as the first mayor. Irisan was first called as Idisan,an Ibaloi word which is a wood used to grind some food to make it fine.

In the year 1922, titling of land started, 211 land titles were owned by Igorots. 1952, Baguio Military Institute had been bought by a Korean and turned it into a business establishment known today as Cooyeesan. Cypress became a subdivision for it was sold by the owner, Pucay. 19983, the land of Maganes was being sell with a price of 2 php per square meter.

As the years go by, houses in Irisan increases resulting the government to demolished illegal houses of the different settlers here in Irisan.
The first families in Irisan were the Smith, Bugnay, Maganes, Oseo, Binay- an, Copero, Dunnong, gabol, Saguid, Menecio, Tacloy, Balaon, Ingosan, Calatan, Tacay, Cutay, Mang- os, Salora and Luna.

Catalino Pablo, a carpenter in an American Company, Benguet Consolidated Incorporation (that joint venture with Pucay), a native from Barlig. He has a daughter named Virginia who married an Ibaloi named Lopez Oseo and gave birth to a son. Afterwards they got separated and Virginia married again an Ibaloi named, Felix Luna and bore 10 children. Virginia did not finish any degree but she is good in communicating, in fact she was once a market vendor. She is known in Irisan foe she is the second Punong Barangay.

So that was the story of Irisan and stories of the first families in this place that everyone should know and respect.
